Gallo Restaurant in Patchogue offers a variety of Colombian dishes. One of the more popular dishes is the Gallo Surf and Turf, which features skirt steak sautéed with caramelized sautéed onions and breaded tiger shrimp accompanied yellow rice and a sweet plantains.
The Bustamante family opened Gallo in Patchogue in 2002 and business has been brisk ever since. Gallo later expanded to its upstairs catering room and constant upgrades.
But the food remains the same that it's been in Colombia for hundreds of years. David Bustamante, who co-founded the business with his parents, said he likes being on the floor, serving food and greeting his customers.
"Someone [from the family] is always here; if it's not me it's my sister. I think that's what's made us very successful."
